Residential Development
Working with a Building Services Consultancy as part of the design team Cadnet were tasked to produce detailed design mechanical and electrical building services Revit models and drawing sheets from preliminary design drawings. These MEP models were co-ordinated with the Architectural and Structural Revit models to maximise the efficiency at which the design could move to construction.
Project History
The aim of the project team was the successful deployment of BIM methodology to the project to facilitate a streamlined construction process, taking advantage of the benefits offered by the BIM process such as more effective integration with off-site fabrication teams to reduce construction costs and simply the construction process on site.
Our Approach
Tasked with modelling and co-ordinating the mechanical and electrical services within each block of the development, Cadnet worked with the Building Services consultancy to model MEP services to detailed design level from initial 2D design layouts.
Working closely with the project team, Cadnet co-ordinated the building services around the structural and architectural Revit models supplied by the design team. These Revit models were then exported to Navisworks along with the Architectural and Structural models for use in clash detection and design review during design team meetings.
In addition to above ground services, site services also required modelling, to ensure that the proposed incoming services positions could be served from the existing mains. Co-ordination of site services was also required with the concrete bases and footings that would be cast for the on-site cranes.
During the design process Cadnet also assisted the structural engineers by investigating modelling methods within Revit to allow wall panel geometry and detailing to be exported directly from the Revit models for use by the wall panel manufacturer in off-site manufacturing.
The Process
Design/Construction Team Input:
Architectural and Structural Revit models.
Preliminary MEP 2D layouts, sections and elevations.
Cadnet BIM Authoring Output:
Detail Design Revit and Navisworks models for MEP services.
BIM model elements populated with ‘useful’ data for construction team and future use.
Fully co-ordinated MEP detailed design layouts, elevations and sections.
Clash reports and details of MEP service pinch points.
Renders and animations of the proposed design to illustrate design intent.
