Should the architect lead the team when working with BIM?

In our proposed BIM Workflows and their supporting Best Practice Guidelines, we emphasise the architect’s role as team leader throughout. This a role that I feel should always be the architects, however it has been diluted in recent years.

A well structured Building Information Model can help architects regain the role of project lead in the design and building process. In doing so, BIM enables architects to safely retain control by putting key information into the model and drawings. The model allows architects to think about the constructability of that detail and test it when developing the model. The issue of liability is actually lessened if the detail is well thought-out in advance.
